Happy Halloween!! October 20th Decorating class!!

Wow!! We had so much fun with this one!! Who doesn't love celebrating Halloween?? We got REALLY creative with this one! We went a little hard core and tried some new techniques but it actually worked! We used cakes and cupcakes this time around to make it a little different. They learned how to use fondant; roll it, cut it and use it to decorate. They learned to use the piping bags; had some great fun with candy corns (the unofficial candy of Halloween) and they learned how to use ground up cookies to make dirt. Take a look at these FANTASTIC cakes!! They had so much fun!! Hooray for Halloween!!!

Getting ready to party!

Cupcakes are on the cakes and piping is in progress. Mom's are welcome to join in!

Spiders anyone??

Not so scary witches are pretty nice!!

Mummies looking good!!

We have a mummy and a pumpkin! And yes, these are all anchored to the cake.

Lovin' these mummies!! Aren't they awesome!!

Mummies coming up from the dirt! Great imagination!!

Pumpkin and spider! Aren't they the cutest??

This was made by an adorable 3 year old! She iced the cake, then smashed the cake, and then ate the icing off!! It was the funniest thing!!

And here is the adorable 3 year old!! All sugared up!!

Everyone was so busy adding to their cakes! We really were very ambitious today and they did awesome!

Love the witches!!

Just precious!!

Some up close pictures!

Look at how it is beautifully color-coordinated!!

Just love it! Scary spider and cute pumpkin!!

I thought this one was also very creative~

Up close Mummies in dirt.

So adorable!!  I told her to say "cheese" and she did!! Perfect picture!!

The cute creator of the cute pair of mummies!

Cute mummy and pumpkin! Her techniques are getting better with each cake!!

What a great picture! And a great cake!!

I love this! She worked every corner of this cake from the top to the bottom and all the sides! I think she really enjoyed herself! Definitely has this talent in her future!!

We had a great time, honestly!! We have two more classes scheduled so make your reservations for Saturday, November 10th at 9 am. We will be all about TURKEYS just in time for Thanksgiving!! We will be using some cookies combined with our cakes next time!! The class is $25 per person and it will be held at Local Color in Springville. If you can't make it for that class, the December class will be Saturday, December 1st at 9 am and we will be doing a Holiday theme (of course)! So, please mark your calendars and let me know as soon as possible. I will need to have reservations by November 6th for the Turkey class. Please email me at designacakeinc@gmail.com for more information and make your reservation!!

New Cake Classes!! Started September!

New DESIGN~A~CAKE decorating classes! Limited Saturday morning classes with a different theme each time! We started this past September with cupcakes and had a "Fishy" theme. All cupcakes were little fishy's! The kids had a wonderful time and made some very cute fishy's. They learned how to color the icing and fill up the piping bags. They learned how to make stars and dots with their piping bags and tips. They also got to use some fun candies to finish their fishy's off! Check out some of their fishy's.

They are ready for their close ups!!

The best part with doing cupcakes is that they were able to make several different creations! They wanted to keep going!!

All ready to decorate!!

I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked too. But you can see the bowl of green icing in the bottom of this picture. The children mixed it all themselves!

We got a little off track with this one. I think she was done with fish. It's all good!!

I just love these creations! They are all a little different!!

So cute!!

This was the table before we started! Just an FYI: you can schedule a birthday party with us at Local Color in Springville if you do not have a place conducive for these types of parties for a special price.

Cake party at a dentist office?? Oh yeah! They know how to have a birthday party!!

Adults have a hankering for the sugar fix too!! We were called to a Homewood dentist office to help them celebrate a co-worker's 50th birthday party! And as you can see, they had a great time! Even the Dentist was in on the act! They were having so much fun and the cakes looked amazing when they were finished!! I hope they had as much fun as we did!!

They were busy at work making sugary confections and working on piping the cakes.

Working hard to create some flowers with fondant.

 Can you say "Sugar HIGH??"

Finished masterpieces! They all looked so great and professional!! We appreciate them letting us celebrate this special and fun occasion with all of them!!

Here are some pictures of the finished cakes:

Have you seen us lately??

In print that is!! We are now advertising in Birmingham Parent Magazine and Birmingham Kids and Family!! This is a big step for us! Please let us know where you found out about us! We would love to know!!

Just a few reminders...

  • We come to your party venue. We do not have a place of our own but we will come to your house, park, church, just where-ever you decide to have the party!
  • We have a pricing policy. It is located on a separate page called "Pricing" and you can find it to the right of this posting in the top of the right-hand column. If you would like to have several classes at a daycare have a party or a church youth group, please message me on Facebook, email me or call me for the rates.
  • Again, we bring 6 inch round cakes to your party venue. We bring the decorating tools, fondant, icing in piping bags, candies & some in-edibles to decorate the cakes. We give the children the opportunity to use their imagination and create their own masterpieces by showing them some of the simple techniques the cake pros use! And the children just love it!! Then everyone gets to take their cake home with them!!
  • This is great for children ages 3 and up! You can also let us know if you have a particular party theme and we will do our best to have the icing colors and candies to mirror that theme!

The BIG "4-0"... Cookie style!

Ok, so it really wasn't a cake party but my daughter and I decided to play around and try something new for my birthday! As you can imagine, I get a little tired of the same old cake by the time my birthday rolls around. Something about having lots of cake through the holidays and doing them for parties makes me crave some variety! So, we decided to make a cookie cake. We actually made it "healthy" if that is even possible with Whole Wheat flour and Dark Chocolate Chips! It was actually pretty good and we were all surprised! So, we made the cookie cake, some white buttercream frosting and Chocolate buttercream frosting. My daughter decided to make a flower. However, she went a little crazy with the icing so it isn't easy to make it all out! She even added the little "40" just so that I didn't forget! Great, thanks... right? Then, I thought we were all done and she found some heart sprinkles and added those after I took the pictures. So, you'll just need to use your imagination with those! Here are a few pictures to see what we came out with:

Yes, she went crazy with the white icing but those are petals and a stem at the bottom. The center has the "40" upside down. Also, the "40" next to the stem on the left. Luckily, it doesn't jump out at me! Just kind of blends in nicely!

This is an up-close shot that my daughter took. I think she got a little icing on the lens and that is why it looks cloudy! She begged me for about 5 days (literally) to do this so I hope you enjoy reading about our experience. Maybe this will be something we try later on! I'll keep you posted!!
